Urethane vs. Rubber There are several reasons why we only utilize Urethane for our Iron Grip line of coated free weight equipment. Urethane is not only highly impact resistant and shock-absorbent, but it is also exceptionally durable. That is why manufacturers of inline skate wheels also choose Urethane over rubber; it is simply the most hardwearing, impact-resistant material available. Urethane has a much higher tear strength than rubber, which allows us to offer a five-year warranty on our Urethane products. It also does not emit a potent odor, like rubber products can, and it has a smooth, non-tacky feel. It is simply the most durable, superior coating available for this type of application.

Iron Grip pioneered Urethane manufacturing technology to create the first fluid injection molding line for large size parts such as dumbbells and Olympic plates, and we continue to produce our Urethane line in our own American facility to ensure strict quality control.
